  CORK

"Statio Bene Fide Carinis" – A safe Harbour for ships is the motto on the coat of arms of the friendly and vibrant port city of Cork.
Since the city was founded by Saint Finbarr over 1,000 years ago it has grown into a cosmopolitan 21st century place to visit. Tousists can enjoy the modern shops and cafes as well as taking in historic places of interest. Cork is often referred to as the 'City of Spires', a reference to the multitude of old churches dotted throughout the city.
Cork city’s commitment and contribution to the Arts and cultural life is well established. The city is home to several galleries, museums, Old CIty Gaol, The Butter Exchange and artist workshops. The city also boasts a year long calendar of festivals ranging from folk, jazz, choral and film.
In recognition of this commitment Cork City was chosen from among other Irish cities to become European Capital of Culture in 2005.

Cork English Market
No visit to Cork would be complete without dropping into the English Market. Trading as a market since 1788, it is one of the oldest of its kind in the world. It has survived the Famine, Revolutions, Wars, and Fire. Today, it allows visitors to enjoy a diverse range of good food and produce, as well a friendly chat with local stall owners. The markets' history, sights and sounds sum up the welcoming atmosphere of Cork.
